What is a Dysfunctional Organization?

While there are many views of what constitutes a dysfunctional organization, and, in fact, many organizations have dysfunctional elements, a truely dysfunctional organization has the following characteristics:

  • Multiple major problems in finance, personnel, operations or other areas.
  • No visible path to a successful future.
  • Has no coping mechanism for its problems.
  • Has lost the confidence of its customers/employees/etc. and they have begun leaving.
  • Is generally in denial.
